To my surprise, this is a question I had to ask after recently attending a business exhibition as a visitor.
What is going on here? These exhibitors paid good money for their stands. I took there information, expressed interest and handed out my business card to them. Maybe they are all worried that visitors will be hit by lots of sales emails after the event. The real mystery is why these emails just aren't being sent.
It is tricky, because nobody wants to be that 'sales person' that keeps pushing an unwanted sales message. The trouble is that in reality it can take several communications before people are ready to do business. I think I read somewhere that most people take between 7 - 10 communications before they are ready to buy. Obviously, face to face meetings can build trust faster, but then those follow up emails & phone calls become even more important. We are living in an age of information overload. It's also so easy to source new products and services that if we don't keep shouting out about our services, we'll just get drowned out by the noise!
These exhibitors needed help with their event follow up. OfficeHounds offers event follow up services. If only they'd bothered to contact me, I would have helped them email or phone every person who invited them to get in touch by providing a business card.
