Obama on immigration & Google.

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: "Barack Obama" < info@barackobama.com > Date: 11 May 2011 03:24 Subject: Fixing what's broken To: "Maggie Langley" < maggie@officehounds.co.uk > Maggie -- I went to El Paso, Texas, today to lay out a plan to do something big: fix America's broken immigration system. It's an issue that affects you, whether you live in a border town like El Paso or not. Our immigration system reflects how we define ourselves as Americans -- who we are, who we will be -- and continued inaction poses serious costs for everyone. Those costs are human, felt by millions of people here and abroad who endure years of separation or deferred dreams -- and millions more hardworking families whose wages are depressed when employers wrongly exploit a cheap source of labor. That's why immigration reform is also an economic imperative -- an essential step needed to strengthen our middle class, create new industries

Unapologetic Jubilation #OBL

I have been thinking a lot about the scenes of my fellow Americans celebrating. I didn't like reading tweets from people complaining about Americans celebrating the news of Bin Ladin's death. I just didn't understand at first. To me those celebrations were a beautiful spontaneous outpouring of emotions. It was a way of saying, we remember . We care . We're grateful for brave soldiers keeping us safe . To me (and I'm guessing many other Americans), Bin Ladin became a symbol of dark times for our country. His actions lead to hurt, loss and for us to move away from our good fashioned American values that are set out in our Constitution. Torture, Guantanamo Bay, the Patriot Act cutting into American's civil liberties, Iraq war starting for questionable reasons, all that jazz just ain't American. When I see those signs of celebration, I see jubilation because it's an end to those dark times. It's not just the death of a man, it's a death
